Kitchens of Africa: A Fusion of Culture and Cuisine

Bringing African Flavors to the World

The inspiration for Kitchens of Africa came from the extraordinary African hairstyles and the colorful fabric patterns of this amazing continent. The goal was to convey a charming and fashionable image, as this product was going to be commercialized in New York, one of the most fashion-addicted cities in the world.

Buenos Aires based package design agency Tridimage, led by designer Pablo Iotti, was commissioned to create the brand and package design identity for Kitchens of Africa. The startup company was introducing two new product ranges - simmer sauces and jerk marinades - with the aim of taking the mystery and apprehension out of cooking African cuisine.

The challenge was to create a visually strong and impactful brand that was also approachable and inviting. The client wanted a design that was not too ethnic, but something that sparked curiosity and fit into mainstream America. The result is a collection of five simple labels that retain a fiery flavor, enticing the senses.

Tridimage's design solution pays homage to African women as the center of authentic African cuisine. The richness of their culture is represented in the textile art motifs chosen for each product. The labels feature soft cultural references like richly patterned textiles and silhouettes of mothers in the kitchen, striking a balance between exoticism and familiarity.

The packaging design for Kitchens of Africa is a fusion of clean, modern aesthetics and exciting, colorful elements. It reflects the soul of the continent while appealing to a wider audience. The BOPP labels, offset printed with gold foil, are applied to glass jars, creating a premium and gourmet look.

With its unique design and flavorful products, Kitchens of Africa stands out on the shelves of Western stores. The brand successfully captures the essence of African cuisine, making it accessible and enticing to all.

This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014. The award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Kitchens of Africa packaging showcases strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
